Pusser's Gunpowder Proof - Guyana, neat: the original strength of the old Navy's rum ration, this rum is heavy and bold. A golden copper colour let's you know you're not drinking a watered down version, in place of the old trick of adding gunpowder and trying to set it on fire. Leaves a warm sensation in your stomach, making this a good drink for a cold night at sea. The nose is outstanding, and very inviting, but this isn't a rum for the faint of heart.
El Dorado 15y.o. Special Ruby Port Cask - Guyana, neat (of course): in a rare twist, this is my 3rd tasting during this particular session, as the bartender gave it a glowing review when I got the Goslings. Another beautiful aroma, and the palate is exquisite. I've had a few port cask rums, but this definitely tops the list.
El Dorado 25 Years - this is different to what I expected from a rum with a slightly higher price point. The palate is very much like an oloroso or pedro ximenez sherry: however it's not nutty like an oloroso, and not sickly sweet like a ximenes. Definite notes of fermented grape. Enjoyable, but the 15 y.o. range is better value for money. Head over to my Instagram, and you'll find some of the others there.
El Dorado High Strength - Guyana, on the rocks. Due to their strength, OP rums are usually best served mixed, but this one is good just with ice. The label says Superia, and they're not lying. This was a 5th round for me (getting crazy), but it wasn't diminished by the previous rounds. The ice diluted it a little, so I recommend trying it with a single large ice cube that won't melt as quickly.
